Suggestion: For nature photography you often have difficult, busy backgrounds like this that detract from your subject. When you can't totally fuzz out the background so it is really featureless, try for something reasonably uniform. A dark piece of cloth, a shadow cast by a black umbrella or an erstwhile assistant. If you get your depth of focus shorter (play with your manual settings), your background will be in very soft focus, and thus you can even hang a jacket or shirt, or towel or piece of felt behind your subject. I am going to email your mother a shot that illustrates what you can do with a simple black cloth placed carefully to take advantage of your light.

Wildflowers are one of my passions. The techniques I use for them carried over to the photo I am sending.
